Arbërie Nagavci, head of Vetëvendosje’s parliamentary group, said that Kosovo has 11 days left to elect a president, otherwise the country will face new elections.

Following a meeting of the Assembly’s presidency, Nagavci said that Prime Minister Albin Kurti would use all the possibilities allowed by his mandate to enable the election of a president and prevent the country from being dissolved and heading to new elections.
According to her, issues of importance to the state should be addressed through a common strategy and not through political grandstanding.
“I believe that Prime Minister Kurti will soon make clear his upcoming meetings and how these issues should be addressed. You know that he took part in an official discussion, where he presented his positions and those of the state of Kosovo at important meetings. I believe that during this remaining period, just as he has done so far, since the certification of the election results, Prime Minister Kurti, who is also chairman of the Vetëvendosje Movement, will do everything within his mandate to ensure the functioning of the institutions, the election of the president and the avoidance of new elections,” she said.
Nagavci underlined that the remaining deadline is short and called for important state issues to be addressed through a common position.
“As of today, we have only 11 days to elect the country’s president; otherwise, we will go to new elections. In this situation, it is very important that we address issues of importance to the state through a genuine state strategy and without grandstanding,” Nagavci said.
Speaking about the draft law initiated by the PDK following the judgment of the Special Court, she said that neither Vetëvendosje lawmakers nor the other parliamentary groups had been consulted on the initiative.
“Naturally, we will make our contribution, but it should be emphasized that, as far as I know, no one from the Vetëvendosje Movement—whether lawmakers, colleagues or our associates—was consulted about this PDK initiative. This should be an initiative that unites us all. As I mentioned, not only were representatives of the Movement not consulted, but, as I understand it, neither were the other parliamentary parties. From what I have heard, the PDK representative said that a group of experts, or several experts, had contributed, but I do not know who they are. Nevertheless, what is important is that, as far as I know, the defense teams of the four KLA leaders were also not consulted on this draft law,” she said.
