The National Security Council convened today at the call of President Bajram Begaj. Discussions are expected to focus on the state of the security institutions following recent developments in the investigation into former SHISH director Vlora Hyseni.

The Council was called to meet after the investigation into Vlora Hyseni began. She is under house arrest. Prime Minister Edi Rama has said the investigation falls within the remit of the judiciary. At the same time, he has stressed the state’s responsibility to ensure and protect institutions related to national security. The meeting began at 8:30 a.m.
Speaking live on News24, journalist Ergys Gjençaj reported that Prime Minister Edi Rama had arrived at the Palace of Brigades. Parliament Speaker Niko Peleshi and State Police Director Skënder Hita are also attending, along with other senior state officials.
It is worth recalling that the case involving Vlora Hyseni is unprecedented in the country, with a SHISH director implicated in a scandal involving the disclosure of secrets. Hyseni helped businessman Ergys Agasi while he was on the run.
Prime Minister Edi Rama has said the investigation falls within the remit of the judiciary. At the same time, he has stressed the state’s responsibility to ensure and protect institutions related to national security. The National Security Council last met three years ago, following cyberattacks from Iran. No decisions are made at its meetings.
