CNN, MS NOW and Politico have asked a US federal judge to extend an order preventing the Donald Trump administration from reimposing restrictions on their journalists at the White House.

According to the media outlets, restricting access violates the rights guaranteed by the First Amendment to the US Constitution. They argue that the measures are intended to punish reporting that does not align with the president’s preferences.
Last week, US Federal Judge Tim Kelly ordered the temporary restoration of access for journalists from the three organizations, whose credentials had been revoked earlier in the month.
The current order expires on October 8. The media outlets are seeking a new order to ensure their access to the White House while the case is being reviewed.
The Trump administration has said the restrictions were imposed for national security reasons. CNN, MS NOW and Politico, meanwhile, link them to their critical reporting on the president and his administration.
Even after the court ruling, the dispute continued: The White House did not allow CNN to be part of the group of journalists who traveled with Trump aboard Air Force One during his visit to Tennessee.
The administration has until Friday to respond to the request. Judge Kelly is expected to schedule a hearing and then issue a ruling on the matter.
