Von der Leyen visits Kosovo, meetings with Haxhiu and Kurti on the agenda

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is in Kosovo today, as part of her visit to the Western Balkan countries. She will arrive in Pristina on October 1, 2026, and hold talks with acting President Albulena Haxhiu, as well as Prime Minister Albin Kurti.

The day’s agenda calls for Haxhiu to receive von der Leyen at the Presidency of Kosovo at 12:30 p.m. The meeting with Kurti is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

The trip is part of the European Commission president’s annual visit to the Western Balkans, which includes Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro and North Macedonia. According to the European Commission, the talks will focus on closer ties with the European Union, gradual integration and implementation of the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, which is worth 6 billion euros.

Von der Leyen began her tour on Wednesday in Tirana, where she held meetings with President Bajram Begaj and Prime Minister Edi Rama. After her stay in Kosovo, she will travel to Podgorica, while on October 2 she will visit Skopje.

The visit to Pristina comes at an important moment for relations between Kosovo and the EU. The meetings are expected to focus on European integration and the reforms needed to advance this process.
