During the first six months of 2026, electricity consumers paid around 449.5 million lek, equivalent to approximately €4.5 million, in interest charges on bills settled after the deadline.

According to data for the January-June period, these penalties were collected on around 2.21 million electricity bills.
May recorded the highest monthly amount in interest charges, at 82.9 million lek. April followed with 81.4 million lek, while 75.9 million lek was collected in June.
In March, interest charges amounted to 73.6 million lek, compared with 72.8 million lek in January, while February recorded the lowest level of the six-month period, at 62.9 million lek.
An increase was also observed in the number of penalized bills. In June, 410,833 bills with interest charges were recorded, the highest figure of the period. The number was 386,868 in April, 383,493 in March and 375,727 in May.
In January, 341,330 such bills were recorded, while February saw the lowest number, at 311,765 bills.
The number of electricity consumers during this period remained in the range of 1.37-1.38 million. At the end of June, the data indicated approximately 1.38 million consumers.
Interest charges are imposed when the monthly bill is not paid by the deadline. The bill can be paid without a penalty until the end of the following month, while after this deadline expires, interest charges are added to the unpaid obligation.
OSHEE continues to administer debts accumulated over the years by consumers who have signed agreements to settle their obligations. For 2026, the company has planned relief schemes for customers who pay their debts, including reductions in interest charges depending on the consumer category.
