After the meetings concluded, she posted on the X platform the message she addressed to Kosovo’s institutions.
“Institutional stability is essential for Kosovo. It is the basis for everything else,” von der Leyen wrote.
According to her, functioning institutions are a precondition for implementing reforms, economic development, and Kosovo’s progress toward European integration.
“Reforms. Economic growth. And progress on the path toward European integration. We have recently seen that dialogue between political parties is possible. And you need to build on this dialogue,” the European Commission President declared.
This statement comes after a long period of political crisis in Kosovo, which has affected the work of institutions and the development of important political processes.
During the joint press conference with Prime Minister Kurti, von der Leyen also spoke about the need to complete the institutional process by electing the country’s president.
She urged political parties to continue communicating and work toward finding a solution to institutional issues.
Von der Leyen noted that the recent political dialogue shows that parties in Kosovo are able to cooperate, and this communication should be used as a starting point to overcome the institutional crisis.
The European Commission President’s visit takes place at an important moment for Kosovo, when the full functioning of institutions is considered essential for advancing reforms and the country’s European agenda.
