Trump spoke about his relationship with the head of the Italian government during a conversation with reporters at the White House.
“Very good. I think it’s a very good relationship. I like her. I’ve always liked her,” the U.S. president said.
The statement comes after several months marked by more tense rhetoric between the two leaders. According to Italian media analyses, Trump’s latest stance signals a softening of his rhetoric toward Meloni, following previous disagreements over issues including the position on the war in Iran and the commitment of European countries.
Trump and Meloni have previously displayed public closeness. The U.S. president has described the Italian prime minister as a friend and stressed the existence of good relations between the United States and Italy.
