PLD calls for VAT reimbursement on fuel, not subsidies for citizens who refuel abroad

The Liberal Democratic Party says that, amid the continued rise in fuel prices and the increasing cost of living in Macedonia, the government must demonstrate that citizens are its priority. According to the PLD, rushed and poorly considered measures are not enough.

The PLD is renewing its proposal to refund the VAT paid on expensive fuel, describing it as direct and concrete assistance for citizens and domestic companies.

According to the party, public funds should not be used to subsidize citizens who buy fuel in neighboring countries. They should instead be directed toward those who need them most, including citizens of the country, transport operators, freight forwarders and domestic businesses.

The PLD says that at a time when every denar matters, wise economic policies are needed—not political marketing, public relations or measures that fail to produce long-term results. The party accuses the government of needing to avoid unnecessary spending, celebrations, the creation of new positions and party privileges, and to focus on real economic problems.

The PLD is calling on the government to consider this proposal and establish a mechanism for implementing VAT reimbursement on fuel. According to the party, this would show that public finances are being managed to protect domestic citizens.

“Record economic growth,” as the prime minister puts it, should not be achieved by placing a heavier burden on domestic citizens, the PLD declares. The party adds that a sustainable economy is built through policies that help keep money in citizens’ pockets./Telegrafi/
