Authorities have not ruled out the possibility that the number of victims may be higher. Because of his modus operandi and the evidence collected so far, investigators consider him one of the most dangerous serial killers in the country’s history.
Michael P. worked as a plumber, which gave him opportunities to enter women’s homes, particularly those of women living without protection. According to the investigation file, he would first inspect the premises and then return using various pretexts as an excuse.
It is suspected that, after entering the homes, he would tie up the women and threaten them to force them to reveal where they kept their money or valuables. Police believe he would then kill them.
The 43-year-old was arrested in February 2025, after a call was received by a bank call center. An employee heard in the background the voice of a woman who was being suffocated. She had called to request help with changing her bank card PIN.
Because the line remained open and the call was being recorded, authorities were able to respond. When officers went to the elderly woman’s home, Michael P. was found beneath the balcony.
Investigators say that, at the time of his arrest, he was under the influence of drugs. The 43-year-old is also suspected of having problems related to gambling addiction.
Around 75,000 photographs were discovered during a search of his phone. According to authorities, some of them may be connected to the women suspected of being his victims.
A police spokesperson told Gazeta Wyborcza that the case could place Michael P. among the most serious serial killers in Poland and, possibly, in Europe as well.
Police found gloves, electrical tape and bandages in the suspect’s backpack. Investigators suspect that these materials were used to restrict the victims’ movements.
According to the investigators’ version of events, after being tied up, the women were forced to reveal the places where they had hidden money and valuables. Even after obtaining the information he wanted, Michael P. is suspected of killing them by placing bags or pillows over their faces. At those moments, the victims were tied to chairs.
Authorities believe that in the early stages he was more careful about eliminating traces. Later, according to investigators, he began leaving behind more evidence, including the bandages found on the victims’ hands.
As part of the same investigation, two Ukrainian nationals have also been arrested, suspected of collaborating with Michael P. in some of the killings.
One of them is 33-year-old Taras H., who has admitted taking part in the events. However, he stated that his only aim had been theft and that he had not intended to kill anyone.
The other suspect, Ihor H., was arrested in November last year but denies any involvement in the events of which he is accused.
