The woman, Greta Astarita, a mother of one, was taken by her family to San Leonardo Hospital after experiencing severe pain in her groin. After checks and examinations, she was discharged because doctors determined she did not need to be admitted.

But after returning home, the pain came back and her condition worsened. According to the initial reconstruction of events, the 33-year-old also lost consciousness, prompting her family to rush her to the same hospital for a second time.

After she arrived, her condition deteriorated rapidly. Her family said doctors first informed them that the baby had died. Then, after a dramatic stay in the intensive care unit at Castellammare di Stabia Hospital, the mother’s death was confirmed on Saturday afternoon.

The family has filed a police complaint, and authorities have launched an investigation to establish the circumstances of the incident. The focus is on the woman’s two visits to the hospital and the assessment of the care she received during her first visit.

Investigators must determine whether her symptoms warranted admission or further intervention, and whether the tragedy could have been prevented. So far, there has been no official conclusion about the cause of death or possible medical responsibility.

The incident has plunged the 33-year-old’s family into mourning. The investigation is expected to clarify what happened and the circumstances that led to this double tragedy.
