According to him, such a framework could constitute a step of great importance on the road to the final end of the war.
His statement came shortly after the declaration of US President Donald Trump, who on Sunday announced via social media that Ukraine and Russia had agreed to a ceasefire of this kind, which, according to him, would enter into force without delay.
Despite this, Zelensky emphasizes that right after Trump’s announcement, Russian forces attacked a power plant on Ukrainian territory – a fact that raises doubts about whether an agreement on the protection of energy facilities can be implemented in practice.
On the Russian side, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed that Kiev cannot make use of the “rest” that a ceasefire would bring. The Kremlin, in addition, has not given any clear confirmation regarding such an agreement, making it known that public announcements will come only when there are concrete developments.
President Trump has also simultaneously asked Ukraine to halt its strikes against the Russian oil sector, as part of efforts to secure the implementation of a recent agreement on oil supplies to the American and global market.
