Speaking to News24 this Thursday, a protester said Prime Minister Edi Rama had mocked citizens for months as they protested peacefully, but was now calling for dialogue.

He said the prime minister was afraid of the student revolt and added that he should respond as soon as possible to their non-negotiable demand: his resignation.

“This protest has put Edi Rama on notice. It has pushed him to the most paranoid limits possible, partially blocking Tirana’s economy. The economy is closing in on him. Edi Rama must take responsibility for the students’ demands.

There is no such thing as dialogue behind armored doors in any country. He has armored the doors of the prime minister’s office as if forces from another state were coming to occupy Albania. He wants dialogue behind armored doors? With whom? Citizens have been out in the square for 135 days. He mocked them, and now he is calling for dialogue. Edi Rama must consider their first demand: that he step down. That is the only way to resolve the crisis gripping Albania today,” he said.

He then mocked the prime minister over the punitive measures he had announced, saying: “I’m worried about the train, that I won’t have access to train transport.”
