Palmer: Democratic majority in Congress could strengthen support for normalization between Kosovo and Serbia

Matthew Palmer believes American support for the Western Balkans’ path toward the European Union could grow stronger if Democrats secure a majority in the U.S. Congress. He linked this possibility to the impact that political changes in Washington could have on the region.

In an interview with N1 television, the discussion also focused on the future direction of U.S. policy toward the Western Balkans, particularly following the reduction of the American presence in the region and the abolition of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Speaking about issues of particular importance, Palmer focused on the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, as well as the integration of Kosovo and North Macedonia into the European Union. He said a Congress with a Democratic majority could provide greater support for the European integration of countries in the region.

Gregory Meeks and Chris Coons were two of the American politicians he mentioned for their continued support for the Western Balkans, describing them as strong supporters of the region.

Palmer also said he expects the United States to continue supporting the integration of Western Balkan countries into the European Union.
