In a message to the Albanian people, US Ambassador Eric Wendt outlined three main priorities for strengthening relations between the two countries, focusing on defense, economic development and security.
Wendt first thanked President Donald Trump and Secretary Marco Rubio for entrusting him with the post in Albania.

The American diplomat said the embassy would undertake an “assessment process that will help shape our path forward.”
The first priority, according to the ambassador, is to strengthen defense capabilities and fulfill the obligations that come with NATO membership.
The second priority concerns economic development through increased trade and investment and the creation of new opportunities that benefit Americans and Albanians alike.
The third priority is security. The ambassador emphasized the importance of cooperating to combat transnational crime and protect shared interests.
“First, we must become stronger. We grow stronger when we build genuine defense capabilities and when each of us does our part as an ally.
Second, we must become more prosperous. We will find ways to increase trade, investment and opportunities, bringing mutual benefits to Americans and Albanians.
Third, we must become safer. We must work together to fight transnational crime and protect our shared interests,” US Ambassador Eric Wendt said in his message.
