Textbooks and school materials provided through subsidies to primary and lower secondary school pupils in grades 1–9 must be looked after carefully and returned to schools when the school year ends. The Ministry of Education and Science (MASH) has reminded all parents and legal guardians of this obligation.
In its announcement, the ministry explains that pupils’ and parents’ responsibility for maintaining, safeguarding and returning core textbooks stems from MASH Administrative Instruction No. 13/2016, which governs the provision, use and care of textbooks, as well as from the declaration signed by parents or legal guardians receiving textbook and school-material subsidies for the 2026–2027 school year. The books must be in suitable condition for reuse and must be handed to the class teacher at the end of the school year.

Meanwhile, starting next week, the Education Inspectorate will visit schools to check whether pupils have their textbooks and whether lessons are taking place as scheduled. According to the ministry, the checks are intended to ensure that subsidy funds have been spent on schoolbooks.
MASH also asks parents and guardians to take care of the textbooks so they can be used to teach future generations of pupils.
