The eruption of volcanic ash from Mount Etna has forced Catania Airport in Italy to suspend all air traffic.

SAC, the company responsible for managing Catania-Fontanarossa Airport, announced that the closure of sector C1 of the airspace would continue. The decision is linked to the large amount of ash in the atmosphere and winds directing it toward air corridors.
As a result, arriving and departing flights will remain suspended throughout Sunday, September 27, at least until 11:59 p.m. local time.
Passengers have been asked not to go to the terminal without first contacting their airline to check whether their flight will operate or to inquire about the possibility of being accommodated on an alternative flight.
