Foreign media reported that the statement was made during a ceremony marking the anniversary of the killing of former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed by Israel in September 2024. Thousands of the group’s supporters attended the event in the southern suburbs of Beirut. Qassem said that Nasrallah had shown them the way, while the supporters gathered there held flags and photographs of the former leader. After Nasrallah was killed, his successor, Hashem Safieddine, was also killed in an Israeli strike.
Clashes between Hezbollah and Israel have caused thousands of casualties and mass displacement in Lebanon. A subsequent agreement provided for the gradual disarmament of Hezbollah and the withdrawal of Israeli forces, but its implementation has been delayed. Hezbollah has not claimed responsibility for any attacks since the ceasefire took effect on June 20.
