During a joint press conference with Prime Minister Albin Kurti, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was asked about the PDK initiative to amend and supplement the Law on the Specialist Chambers of Kosovo.

Von der Leyen said that determining the legal framework for this issue falls within Kosovo’s competence. She stressed, however, that any decision must respect and guarantee the independence of the judiciary.
“Kosovo must decide on possible changes to the legal framework. What matters is guaranteeing the independence of the judiciary. Within this principle, it is up to Kosovo to determine what measures are necessary, but the judiciary must remain independent,” Von der Leyen said.
