Berisha opposes leaving institutions: It would serve Rama

Sali Berisha told opposition allies, during a meeting at the Democratic Party headquarters, that the opposition’s withdrawal from the institutions would be in Edi Rama’s interests. Responding to their proposals, the DP leader called for the opposition’s battle to continue inside Parliament as well.

According to Berisha, the prime minister wants the opposition to remain outside the institutions, so any decision to abandon them should be discussed with consideration for whom it would serve. He described protests as the only way to demand Rama’s departure and said this could not be left solely to SPAK, which he referred to in his speech as “SKAP-i.”

Tedi Blushi, head of the Freedom Party’s Parliamentary Group, also supported the position in favor of protests. He called on the DP and its allies to organize a nationwide protest on October 8, the day Parliament is expected to vote on the Socialist Party’s draft Territorial Reform.

At the meeting with opposition allies, Blushi called for the rally not to include only residents of the 15 municipalities expected to be affected by the reform. According to him, the session scheduled for Thursday is an opportunity for Albanians from across the country to gather in front of the Parliament of Albania and show the prime minister that, in the Republic of Albania, it is Albanians who decide.
