In accordance with the powers established by law, the KPI has implemented its operational plan and assigned officers to closely monitor how the protest was managed, communication between the police and protesters, the use of force, as well as the use of equipment and other permitted means.

KPI investigators have also received a complaint submitted through the Kosovo Police. In it, a citizen claims that police officers exceeded their authority while using force.

The institution said that the decision to launch the investigation was also based on information gathered during monitoring, footage published in the media and other relevant sources.

“The KPI will take all necessary actions within its legal mandate to clarify the circumstances and, based on the findings of the preliminary investigation, will assess the further steps that may be taken,” the statement said.

The KPI said it would continue exercising its mandate professionally, impartially and independently, with the aim of ensuring legality, protecting citizens’ rights and respecting professional standards during law enforcement.
