One year has passed since the killing of Judge Astrit Kalaja, an event that caused a major shock in the justice system and among the Albanian public.

To mark the anniversary, the judicial panel of the Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction gathered to honor Kalaja’s memory and recognize his many years of contribution to the field of justice.
After the commemorative ceremony, representatives of the judicial panel traveled to Shkodër, where they visited the judge’s family and expressed their condolences and solidarity on this painful anniversary.
Kalaja was killed on October 6, 2025, inside the courtroom of the Court of Appeal in Tirana, shortly after the verdict had been announced in a property case.
Elvis Shkambi has been identified as the suspected shooter and is accused of committing the crime in cooperation with his uncle, Gjon Shkambi. Two other people were also injured in the incident.
