As the deadline for electing the head of state approaches, Kurti asked the PDK to guarantee that it would take part in the session. At the same time, he announced that Vetëvendosje would seek an extraordinary session to vote in the second reading on the law concerning the Specialist Chambers.
The prime minister said that his party would discuss which course of action would be most appropriate. According to him, a response should be awaited regarding the additional offer, while the other parties must demonstrate whether they are truly ready not to leave Kosovo without a president.
Kurti said he had not communicated with LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku. He stressed that the LDK owed the Vetëvendosje Movement six MPs as part of the efforts to elect the president, reports KosovaPress.
According to Kurti, Abdixhiku had negotiated on behalf of 18 MPs, but their number later fell to 12, making it impossible to elect Bekim Sejdiu. For this reason, he said that in any similar situation, the participation of six MPs must be guaranteed, adding that he would communicate with the LDK leader again.
Speaking about the protest held the previous evening, during which pyrotechnic devices and tear gas were used, Kurti said that several cases had been referred to the Police Inspectorate. The aim, he said, was to verify whether any police officer had exceeded his authority in dealing with the protesters.
Kurti explained that he had remained in the Assembly until after midnight and had not been anywhere else, so he did not know the details of the protest or the moment when the police had intervened.
