The provisions will take effect on November 1 and include mandatory age verification, restrictive measures for minors and parental control mechanisms.
Under the regulation, social media platforms will not be allowed to provide services to users under the age of 15.
Age verification will be carried out when an account is opened through the state digital portal, e-Devlet. Platforms will only be told the user’s age group, while their identity will not be disclosed.
A special protection framework will apply to minors who have turned 15.
Their accounts will automatically be set to private. Live broadcasts and personalized advertising will also be prohibited. They will only be able to receive messages from accounts they follow, while other users will not have access to their follower lists.
Parents will be able to manage account settings, set limits on usage time and authorize payments.
The regulation stipulates that verification of existing accounts must be completed by March 31, 2027. Accounts registered in the names of children under 15 will be closed.
