The Holy Father made the news public during the Sunday Angelus prayer, addressing the faithful from the window of the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican, in front of those gathered in St. Peter’s Square.
According to the Pope’s explanation, the formation is well-defined, and doctors have determined that it should be removed through surgery. He said he had decided to follow their advice and that the procedure would be carried out soon.
So far, no further details have been made public regarding Leo XIV’s diagnosis or the surgical procedure to be performed.
During his address, the Pope also delivered a message about the importance of doing good, even when good deeds are not understood or appreciated by others.
He stressed that the kindness people offer may be misinterpreted or rejected, but that this, in his view, should not become a cause for discouragement.
Leo XIV emphasized that the joy conveyed by the Church is not feigned, but deep, tangible and genuine. It is connected to everyday life, work, smiles, tears, handshakes and acts of kindness.
In conclusion, the Holy Father described this joy as a gift from God for the salvation of the world.
