During the discussion, Zulfaj expressed his gratitude to MEP Reuten for his continued commitment and support for Kosovo, particularly in the context of the EU integration process.
Reuten played a key role in visa liberalization for Kosovo, serving as the European Parliament’s rapporteur on the issue, which paved the way for Kosovo’s citizens to travel visa-free within the Schengen area.
The chief negotiator stressed that Kosovo’s progress on its path toward EU membership is in the mutual interest of both the country and the European Union itself.
He pointed out that the enlargement of the European bloc should be guided by the principle of merit, respect for the rule of law and alignment with the EU’s fundamental values, as set out in Article 2 of the Treaty on European Union.
Emphasis was also placed on the need for Kosovo to fully align with the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy, as an important step toward further strengthening the integration process.
The meeting in Brussels was part of a series of consultations that chief negotiator Jeton Zulfaj is holding with members of the European Parliament and senior officials of European institutions, with particular attention to Kosovo’s European perspective.
