North Macedonia must adopt constitutional changes to continue its path toward the European Union, EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said today.
After meeting in Brussels with North Macedonia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for European Affairs, Bekim Sali, Kos said that the constitutional changes constitute the necessary step for continuing the European integration process, with no need for further political decisions, reported “BGNES.”

She directly urged North Macedonia’s government to fulfill its commitment and proceed with the constitutional changes.
“There are not many things that need to be done. There are many, but essentially it is about one step: the constitutional changes. Once they are adopted, we will be able to move forward without any further political decisions. Therefore, my appeal to the government is: please do it and fulfill your obligation. I am convinced that afterward we will be able to move forward, in the best interests of your citizens,” she said.
According to the European commissioner, current developments represent an opportunity for North Macedonia to move closer to the EU, particularly in view of the progress made by other Western Balkan countries.
“I hope that very soon we will sign the accession treaty with Montenegro. Albania is also making good progress. This is the right moment for North Macedonia to move forward. Meeting expectations depends on North Macedonia’s politicians,” Kos declared.
