A missile of unknown origin struck a ship in the Persian Gulf, near the Iranian coast, and caused a fire on board. The incident was reported by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
The incident occurred yesterday evening, about 40 nautical miles south of the Iranian island of Lavan. Tensions have risen in the waters near the Strait of Hormuz, where commercial ships have faced repeated attacks.

UKMTO, part of the UK Ministry of Defence, said the crew was safe and that no pollution or other environmental impact had been reported so far. The ship involved has not yet been identified, and the missile’s origin remains unknown.
Meanwhile, on Friday, Oman said it had rescued 25 crew members from another commercial vessel that was attacked near the country’s coast.
Authorities are monitoring the situation and have urged ships in the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity without delay.
